The time has come to make some changes. Some important, drastic changes.
My daughter was born on May 31, 2010. In these past short 6 months I have come to see so much about myself, the world around us, and the way we teach and raise our children.
And frankly, it scares the Hell out of me. Obesity is a major issues with both mothers and babies. The general health in Canada isn't terrible but there is plenty of room for improvement. And if you look at the things we are teaching our daughters, you know we have a looooooooooong ways to go!
The problem begins when we try to take on the whole world. In that battle, our choices are to charge toward it, intent on it's immediate destruction, or flee from it, avoiding conflict all together.
If you charge forward, trying to stop the enemy, you become like the Egyptians chasing the Israelites through the Red Sea -- drowned in the madness.
If, on the other hand, you try to hide from it, you become like Jonah -- swallowed up, and spit out again in the same sour position.
The better choice is to follow the example of John the Apostle. John lead by example, desiring for the whole world to change. But he didn't wage war, fight battles or run for office. Neither did he hide, run away or lay blame when things got difficult. Instead, he chose the alternative -- he used his life, his choices, and his objectives to do the talking for him.
That is my choice. I want my daughter to learn the importance of health, of good outlook, and of self-confidence. If I am to be her role model, I want it to be in someone who is healthy, active, positive and reliable. And so, I will have to live that lifestyle.
Over the month of December, you will see me review the who's, how's, and why's of my journey to better health and awareness of my body. I look forward to this and am glad to share my experiences with you!

Where I Stand: Part Three
I do have a lot of good stuff going for me, that's for sure!
All in all, I'm not off to a bad start!
- I am only 29.
- I have a very supportive husband and family.
- My daughter is still very young.
- I don't smoke.
- I don't drink.
- I don't do drugs.
- I don't drink coffee.
- I don't have any medical issues as of yet.
- I don't take any medications.
- I live in Canada.
- I live within an hour's drive of some of the most beautiful farms in the world, plenty of local produce.
- I am pretty flexible with my choices and needs.
- I have the education necessary to be a certified personal trainer, so I know more than most about health and nutrition.
- I have the knowledge of several health professionals at my disposal.
All in all, I'm not off to a bad start!
Where I Stand: Part Four
Here are my thoughts on what goals I have for myself and my health. These are in no particular order.
- I want to begin my 30s with a healthy, vibrant body so I can enjoy them.
- I want to look back on my 20s and savor my 30s as a healthier, more fulfilled period of my life.
- I want to have energy to chase my daughter (and any future children) around.
- I want to enjoy my children's childhood as much as they do.
- I want to attend Woodstock 100 and be lively enough to enjoy it (I will be 88 years old).
- I want to live to be 100.
- I want to run a marathon in 3 years.
- I want to teach my daughter to love her body, and treat it well, rather than bemoaning her weight.
- I want to love my husband physically, emotionally, compassionately, humbly and as much as possible until God calls one of us home.
Where I Stand: Part Two
So where shall I start? There is oh so much to cover. Well, let's start at my mouth and work our way through.
